There are so many tiny imported Bulldog and French Bulldog puppies for sale on the Internet that this next statement will probably surprise you. It is illegal for importers to sell imported puppies less than 4 months old (less than 5 months old if the importer is in California). It’s absolutely true. Pedigrees and Registrations – What You Need To KnowA pedigree is a listing of the parentage of the dog in question. Commonly pedigrees show 3, 4 or 5 generations behind the dog in question. A registration is a certificate issued by a dog registry organization, showing the name, breed, sex, date of birth, and owner of a dog, with identification of at least the parents of the dog. How To Read A Puppy Warranty/GuaranteeAdvice From A LawyerMost warranties (or guarantees, which is the same thing) offered by puppy importers and domestic puppy mills are worthless. Actually, saying that they are worthless understates the case. Not only do they not provide any real protection, they seek to take away rights the buyer would have by law if there were no warranty.
Deposits – Don’t Be a SuckerMost of the
commercial puppy importers, and many domestic breeders, ask for a substantial
non-refundable deposit on a puppy. DON’T DO IT!!!!! Furthermore, unless you are
dealing with someone you KNOW produces quality dogs, NEVER buy a dog without
seeing it first. Buying a dog is not like buying a brand-name item. All are
different. You would not pay for a TV set without knowing what make and model
you were going to get. Don’t pay for a puppy without knowing what you are
getting.
