There are so many tiny imported Bulldog and French Bulldog puppies for sale on the Internet that this next statement will probably surprise you. It is illegal for importers to sell imported puppies less than 4 months old (less than 5 months old if the importer is in California). It’s absolutely true.

Pedigrees and Registrations – What You Need To Know

A pedigree is a listing of the parentage of the dog in question. Commonly pedigrees show 3, 4 or 5 generations behind the dog in question. A registration is a certificate issued by a dog registry organization, showing the name, breed, sex, date of birth, and owner of a dog, with identification of at least the parents of the dog.

Deposits – Don’t Be a Sucker

Most of the commercial puppy importers, and many domestic breeders, ask for a substantial non-refundable deposit on a puppy. DON’T DO IT!!!!! Furthermore, unless you are dealing with someone you KNOW produces quality dogs, NEVER buy a dog without seeing it first. Buying a dog is not like buying a brand-name item. All are different. The AKC's Management Disciplinary Committee has suspended and fined  Mr. Todd Howard, Fallbrook, CA, Mr. Howard imports Bulldogs and French Bulldogs from Hungary, selling them under the trade name www.BigBulldogs.com

CAN IT BE TRUE???
 We've heard that commercial puppy importer Todd Howard (BigBulldogs.com) has given full refunds to three puppy
buyers who were deceived into thinking that Mr. Howard had
bred their puppies himself only to discover (AFTER they bought
their puppies) that their puppies were bred in Hungary. If it's
true, and you have the same or a similar complaint, maybe
there's a refund waiting for you!

Read the articles below for information on the abuses in the puppy importing business, why buying an imported puppy is a bad idea, how to spot abusive puppy sellers (whether they are selling imported puppies or puppies born in the U.S.), and how to protect yourself.  Read the articles on our Import Trade page for information on what has happened to people who bought imported puppies from abusive importers, and the problems those poor puppies have suffered.


Please help us to help others. Please tell us of any problems you have encountered and send us copies of the documentation we recommend you gather to take action against the seller. Please contact John Hoffman at TheWrongPuppy@dslextreme.com  to provide such information. We can only warn of problems if we become aware of them from dissatisfied buyers.

Providing us such information on abusive sellers and the problems you have encountered will help in another way as well. A bill called PAWS was introduced into the U.S. Congress during the past session (2005-2006). Among other things, PAWS would have added laws that would help curb many of the abuses taking place in the puppy import trade. John Hoffman provided detailed written information to Congress that helped persuade Congress that such provisions are necessary. Unfortunately, PAWS was never voted upon, though a great number of Senators and Congressmen/women co-sponsored it. We expect that PAWS will be reintroduced in the new session of Congress that began in January 2007. John can provide Congress with up-to-date information on abuses only if affected buyers send us the information on their experiences.
